One of several cases, and the NHTSA is investigating . Using customers to beta-test their product, as always.

What troubles me most about this isn’t the beta testing on the unsuspecting bystanders, although that’s bad enough, but rather the clear indication that Tesla is nowhere near the promised land of full autonomy.
If their cars can’t handle this, they sure as hell can’ t drive me home while I’m taking a nap.

I could see this function being useful in one strange circumstance: vehicles on either side of your car are parked too close, so you can use auto summon to make the vehicle pull out of it’s space partially so that you and your passenger can easily get in before you drive your ass home the traditional way, which is doing the driving yourself.
It’s surprising to me that this ambitious tech is included when it can’t even avoid a slow moving vehicle with plenty of room to avoid it. Heck, it looked like it was attracted to that Accord.

The thing is, it’s not auto summon, it’s controlled like a remote control car from the owner’s mobile phone. Tesla states it’s for the operator to steer vehicle and make sure it’s clear and safe to do so.
This is just another case of a semi-autominous vehicle not knowing how to operate the vehicle, just like luxury car owners who don’t look after their vehicle and then down the line, say they are unreliable. Like 4x4/SUV owners who get their cars stuck and then rant about the car, because they were too lazy and stupid to learn how to operate it’s varying functions that have even been simplified by the manufacturer.
You can't cure stupid.

So, owners an idiot. Doesn’t it only move while the owner has its finger on the button? He saw that car coming and kept letting his Tesla drive.
